The Roman Baths of Bath

2 July 2012

I made it to England! But I’ve been busy with classes and such, which is why I haven’t blogged. Sorry about that.

We left Wales in the morning and drove to Bath, where we got to take a tour of the Roman baths that are still there. That was neat, even though the water was nasty—or manky, as my Irish friends would say. It was cool to see some of the stone remnants that have been found. They’re all on display in the museum there.

After going through the museum, we got to explore the city for a couple of hours. I bought my first pasty, which was pretty fantastic!

Me and Palmer with our delicious pasties!
We also stopped by the Jane Austen museum there. I guess Jane Austen lived there for a while during her life, but she hated it. We couldn’t go through the museum without paying money (and we had heard that it wasn’t worth it), so we just looked around the gift shop there.

Afterward, we wandered down to the river, which was cool. At this point, we were just trying to find things to do because we weren’t due back at the coach yet.

Someone recommended to us that we take a look at the oldest house in Bath. And we did just that. The house has been there since 1482! That’s pretty old. And it was the home of the Sally Lunn bun. I didn’t know what that was, but I guess it’s a famous type of bread. So that’s pretty cool, right?

Once we had exhausted our time in Bath, we left for Bristol, where we would be staying the night. We didn’t do much once we were there. Palmer was sick (we think from the pasty), so I went to the store with some of the other girls to pick up some ginger ale and crackers. After that, I just went back to the hotel and emailed family and such. So not a super exciting night (or day, really). But that’s alright.
