Today was my first Sunday in
London. It was a little weird because half of the people in the ward here are
American. I’m not sure what they’re doing here, but I thought it was
interesting. And they’re not tourists. They’re part of the ward. The funny
thing is that it took me fifteen minutes to register that the guy conducting
was an American. Haha. It just sounds so normal to me that I forget that it’s
supposed to be out of place here.
One weird thing is that three
people from my group saw people there that they knew from the states. Random,
right? That ward is probably the one that everyone goes to since it’s also the
visitors’ center and the mission offices.
Anyway, during Sunday school, a
lady was sharing an experience with us. And at one point, she said that she
didn’t want to go to America because she envisioned everyone walking around
with guns on their belts. All of us girls just looked at each other and tried
not to laugh. But the lady looked at us, knowing that we were Americans and
that we would find it funny.
After church, some of the girls
and I went to the National Gallery. It’s full of paintings, including originals
of Monet, Michelangelo, Rafael, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Van Gough. Awesome,
right? I’m not a huge art person, but it was cool to see the originals. I especially
liked being able to see the paint strokes of Monet’s paintings. His work is
incredible.
We spent about an hour and a half
there, but I couldn’t take pictures, so I have nothing to show for it. But it
was awesome!
When we came home, Abby and
Shayla had made dinner for everyone in our flat (six of us girls share a
kitchen, so we assigned each room a night for dinner). That was fantastic, and
we had strawberries dipped in white chocolate. SO good. I don’t really like
chocolate-covered strawberries (don’t judge me), but these were amazing! And get
this: it’s only 86 pence for a bar of chocolate, and it went a long way. I’m
probably going to buy some to bring home with me. :)
Well that was basically my whole
day. The only other thing I did was write a book report. It was super easy. So
life is great! I can’t believe that I’m going to be back in Utah in another
month. In some ways, it feels like I should still have so much longer left, but
at the same time, I feel like I’ve already been gone for so long because we’ve
seen and done so much in just a couple of weeks. But that’s a good thing,
right? :)
