Portobello Road!

7 July 2012

On Saturday, I had class as usual. But I didn’t end up doing my presentation. Now I’m scheduled to do it Monday.

After class, some of us went to Portobello Road for the market there. Apparently, it’s the largest antiques market in the world! And it was awesome. The road was just lined with shops selling all sorts of random things. And yes, I found myself some pretty cool stuff. First, I got a jacket that says, “London, England” on it. But the exciting stuff came after. I found a copy of my favorite book, Jane Eyre, from 1940, as well as a copy of Grimm’s Fairy Tales from 1950. They were supposed to be eight pounds a piece, but the man selling them gave them to me for ten total (which is about fifteen dollars)! Then I found a super cool spoon. In case you don’t know, I collect spoons, so I was freaking out. It’s made from a silver Celtic coin (real silver). That was supposed to be seven pound fifty, but the lady gave it to me for six even, which turns out to be about nine dollars. It was definitely a successful afternoon, and I’m planning on going to some other markets this week and then going back to Portobello next Saturday.

My new favorite spoon! The cross on top is a Celtic cross.

I just love books. :)

After spending a few hours on Portobello Road, Palmer and I went to King’s Cross so that I could get a picture at Platform 9 ¾ (that won’t make sense if you haven’t read or seen Harry Potter).

On my way to Hogwarts!

Once we were home, I Skyped my family, which is always fun. But it was even better this time because my dad just happened to be on the phone with his parents at the time. So he put the phone up to the speakers on the laptop so that I could talk to my grandparents! It worked out so well that my mom decided to call her parents and do the same thing. It was so great to talk to all of them. :)

Later that night, Kylee, Palmer, and I went to see Big Ben and the London Eye. We didn’t go on the Eye, but we will, don’t worry. We mostly just walked around and looked at how cool London is at night. We had a good time!

This is a carousel they had going. Most of the people
riding it were adults. Apparently, it's a replica of an older one.

Oh, and here's one with me in it!

I just like this one. :)

  1. Now I'm officially jealous. :-) Great pictures of Parliament! And now I have the Portobello road song stuck in my head...
